I think this is a temporary measure. It it keeps up for long I think the sites popularity will drop. The whole idea of the site is compromised by the new FP and I think they will change it back.

So far I'm not a fan of it either, both from a perspective of getting exposure for my sites and from a frequent delicious user. I used to visit the front page several times per day to see what's there, but the links seem to be pretty much useless now. At least the popular tab is still there, but I wish that was the default fp and the fresh bookmarks were on another tab.

On one hand, I'm furious about this move, but on the other, I don't really care.

It has become obvious for a long time that social media is not the way to go. We've seen popular sites succumb to spammers and gaming one by one - Digg (useless links), then Stumble Upon (tons of plagiarized links), and recently Twitter (signal-to-noise ratio going down rapidly). Just another day at the office for the list of 'gone crappy' social media sites, I guess.

Oh, and one more thing - traffic from Delicious, however precious little it will be from now, will be more focused.

I subscribe to Delicious Popular RSS feed, as do, I suspect, many other keen users. They’ll still be seeing the actual popular bookmarks. So will people who’re genuinely disappointed by the crap on home page (and hope for something better from the ‘popular’ link).

Correction - I just looked at the RSS feed of Delicious popular, and it is heavily influenced by people bookmarking and promoting the crap on front page. I'm unsubscribing from Delicious popular too, it was awesome wihle it lasted.

Took me a while to notice the changes to delicious at first, because I hardly ever visit the front page.

But, yeah, it's a mess when there are only a few off-topic mentions cited and a network of twitter bots could easily get any link onto the front page.

Links in the tweets look like they're followed too, but I can't imagine that will last too long.

The real value in delicious is with the networks. Building a strong, targeted network of subject matter experts is the key to getting the best from the site.

This is sad news.
Oh I hope that they'll realize what they've done is bad.
Twitter is a great tool, but of definitely lower quality (by the means of information quality) than Delicious. I hope popular will be the default again in short time.

I already miss the old Delicious. Why does Yahoo keep messing these great sites up?

Thanks Ian, good to know it's not just me. Honestly: The Delicious fp was the last resort of the good old Web 2.0.

Twitter integration would be great but one that makes sense, for instance
# shorter links
# ability to bookmark links directly from Twitter
# overview of which Twitter links really get bookmarked.

They lost traffic over the last two years so they panicked I guess.
