Before putting the site on Flippa I did contact a number of people involved in the industry and did have some interest, but no one was in a position to buy at the time. Ideally, I would have taken more time to find the right buyer, but because of things going on in my life right now I was anxious to move on. I agree with your point on Flippa though, and I would have preferred to avoid listing it there if possible.</description>

I think you were victim to a problem we&#039;ve blogged about and many people have discussed on the forums, but with Flippa having critical mass right now, there are very few other places to sell your site, especially ones that require above average knowledge of a subject area in order for the new vendor to operate.

I believe that if you had a marketplace of buyers who we&#039;re either design savvy or better still owners of something design related, their focus wouldn&#039;t have been monetising through adverts and hence it would have a greater value to them.

Where&#039;s Adobe when you need them :)

One thing to point out, I don&#039;t think a blog in the design niche with 500,000 visitors is worth as much as a comparable blog in other niches. The click-through rates on ads is much lower than with non-tech savvy audiences, so it takes more traffic to earn ad revenue. Also, there&#039;s a ton of other design blogs out there. That being said, I originally was hoping for significantly more than $50,000 (based also on the amount of search engine traffic and number of subscribers). Basically, the people who weren&#039;t looking to buy a site seemed to think it was worth much more than those who were interested in buying.</description>
