I am reading your dofollow link posts and the resulting dialogue and it appears that some commenters see a benefit with dofollow and some have reverted to nofollow.
Maybe it has to do with their personality or the content of their blog?
I think dofollow encourages more commenting. And you have even (in your barbecue post) shared some guidelines that I think would be good for any commenters to use.
Like you said earlier in your post, say something nice, something funny, something useful.
Seems like a good way to go through life, too.

I am really glad to see the do-follow movement gaining momentum. Personally I thought the no-follow tag was hogwash all along. Allowing sites to just not bother with moderation and pile tons of garbage links into their pages without consequence does not make for a better web. Personally I have become rather disenchanted with google over the past couple years. Their methods make less and less sense. They basically require us to engage in shady practices which verge on spam because otherwise all the valid, natural back-links we may accrue will be 99% no-followed. I think the days of using back-links as any sort of accurate measure of popularity or usefulness are long past.

So I am hoping that some little guy steps up and crushes google just like google crushed everyone else a decade ago. I suppose if they would just get their act together and give up on the backlinks I may forgive them. I also dislike the level of importance google places on fresh content. There are plenty of sites out there which have compiled all the info available on a subject and there is no call to update that info every other day, but they may fall behind a much less complete site which is still in the process of compiling and organizing that info. I guess I just tire of jumping through googles hoops which often seem rigged to favor those who can spend the most money on gaming the system.

It is great to see more and more blogs changing to dofollow. Gives people a reason to post comments.

I completely agree w/ adding a DO FOLLOW plugin...i will do the same. I think its a nice thing to do for people that are taking time to comment on your blog out of millions out there, plus more people will check your place out :) Thanks
