I think keeping the user experience in check and providing a unique spin on any topic is a good approach to take. Think about what keeps you reading the blogs you might read and apply those principals to yourself.

Steve: Not only that, many videos containing music aren’t visible in Germany anymore due to copyright restrictions by the major labels.

Even the most popular video of 2009 got censored like that.

Some great points and I have to agree with your point about embedding videos from YouTube etc.

I did this on one of my first blogs about scuba diving and found 2 years later that many of the videos no longer worked as their owners had removed them without me realising.

Took days to go through the blog and redo everything.

The point on YouTube is debatable, I think. I understand your point, but videos add a lot of value and seem to keep readers on your page longer. I think the key is to provide lots of other content (not just a video) and only choose videos that are likely to have some longevity.

Great points. Totally agree on not posting youtube videos. I would also like to add that you should not hotlink images from flickr or any other website for that matter. If the image is removed from flickr or the other website;s server, you get an empty image which looks ugly. And the ‘popular posts’ plugin is a must have. Not only do people easily see your popular posts, it also helps you in optimizing these posts better.
